I, the other

Sipra Pati

Fear
Frustration
Exasperation
Deep inhale... long exhale
my skin
my gender
my religion
my God
my temple
my child
my language
my culture
my race
my state
my nation
my love
my caste
my attire
my community
my work
my school
my beliefs
.... .... ....
Conform not.
I am
but, the other.

  1. Simply superb. Realisation of true identification. In fact, all else, howsoever overwhelming or appearing is "other". It's rare and magical when such "I, the other"s meet. No conformation is necessary.

  2. Sipra, you say it really well, in simple words, yet encapsulating the many complexities around.

  3. Thought provoking, the minimalist style is great! We are the 'other' always, but we are easily susceptible to giving 'power of attorney' to the mind to act in strange ways on our behalf accentuating our experiential identifications, most times in a strident and tumultuous manner .. Like you say color, faith, political ideology etc.

  4. It was great to read it all over again. Such a staccato of a poem.
